Battle Rapper Who Killed Competitor On Stage Sentenced To 30 Years For Murder

An up-and-coming emcee from Texas has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his competitor in a rap battle.

According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Samuel Raynard Jones pleaded guilty 2 days ago (July 23) to fatally shooting 17 year-old Christopher Smith in September 2006. The death became the outcome of a rap face off between the two.

Both individuals exchanged battle rhymes until Jones drew a handgun. Smith allegedly suggested having a physical fistfight, but after a short wrestling match, friends began pulling them apart when Jones began to choke him.

As Smith prepared to leave the scene, Jones shot him directly in the head.

Around the time of the incident, Jones was on probation for drug and deadly conduct charges. This resulted in the aspiring rapper being sentenced to five years in prison for a probation violation on the deadly conduct charge and an additional 10 years for probation violation on the drug possession charge.
