Obie and Eminem Still Friends

Following the heavy circulation of Obie Trice's new single "The Giant" signalling the Detroit rapper's departure from his situation with Shady Records and it's parent company, Interscope, the brass at Shady issued a statement Monday (Jun 30) reaffirming its support of Trice's decision.

"Shady Records has agreed to allow Obie Trice to pursue his craft in a
different forum free from the constraints of the current major label
model," Eminem's long time partner and manager Paul Rosenberg told
AllHipHop.com.

Sources on the web have erroneously reported that the new explanatory
track released to the web on Sunday (Jun 29) included lyrics meant as a diss to his former label and Eminem, who added Trice to the label's
roster in 2000.

At issue was the song's opening verse, on which Trice raps "Guess it
was meant / for me to branch off from my caucasian friend" and "Nope,no more 2nd place to Eminem / question if i was 2nd is the question to many men."

"Eminem will continue to support and work with Obie on many levels of
his career," Rosenberg stated frankly. "He remains a close friend and
member of the Shady family."

During his time as a Shady/Interscope artist, Obie Trice's two albums
which were well received critically, established the artist as Eminem's heir apparent.

The first, 2003's Cheers, sold over 500,000 copies worldwide, while its follow-up Second Round's On Me found slightly less commercial support.

Obie Trice no longer with Shady Records

Last week, a rumor surfaced on Hip Hop blog UrbanLookout.com that Shady/Interscope artist Obie Trice had been dropped from his label.

Allegedly, a friend of Aftermath artist Bishop Lamont discovered that Trice had been "dropped off of the label for unknown reasons."

Trice, who was scheduled to release his third solo album Bottoms Up this year, released a track addressing the situation. The song, titled "The Giant," addresses the situation:

"Well, no more Shady. Guess it was meant/For me to branch off from my Caucasian friend/Nope, no more 2nd place to Eminem/Question if i was 2nd is the question to many men/No disrespect to Em, he's first/Anything after, research the verses."

Though Obie's debut Cheers went platinum, his following album Second Round's On Me was hampered by controversy surrounding the "stop snitching music," preventing the emcee's lead single to receive air play.

Wyclef Jean working to develop Haiti

When Wyclef Jean went to Haiti recently, he had in tow the television cameras you might expect of a big-time rapper and producer.

But he also was accompanied by a pool of buttoned-down business types, including the likes of Canadian entrepreneur Belinda Stronach and other potential foreign investors.

The Haitian-born Jean, who rose to fame with the Fugees hip-hop group and became a homeland hero with his efforts to bring education and peace to the impoverished Caribbean nation, has set his sights on serious economic change.

The Grammy-winning musician said the poorest country in the Americas, roiled by food riots in April, needs foreign investment and help with sustainable development but not charity that could cause Haiti to become even more dependent.

"I understand that there is a food crisis that needs to be addressed urgently, but at the same time donors need to inject funds in projects likely to bring sustainable results," he told Reuters in an interview at the end of a five-day visit last week.

Haiti, struggling to establish a stable government after a long history of political upheaval since a slave revolt threw off French rule two centuries ago, endured its latest turmoil when skyrocketing food prices triggered the ouster of the government nearly three months ago.

Plies Gives Money For Inmates and Students

Slip-N-Slide Records’ latest superstar Plies has partnered with his brother/manager Big Gates to create a non-profit organization aiming to promote a “more functional, productive and just community.”

Big Gates and Plies Power of Visions will kick off its crusade against the ills faced by their South Florida community, by awarding two $5,000 college scholarships.

Named after a song on Plies’ latest album Definition of Real, the “Somebody Loves You” Scholarship Fund 2008 will be presented to one male and one female student, who is the child of an incarcerated parent and exhibit a financial need.

“We want to provide those who have been and continue to be affected by the negative impacts of the prison system with a sense of hope, and to let them know that they are not forgotten,” explains Plies. “No matter what adversities one may face in life, one thing remains true – and that is that somebody loves you.”

The scholarship will be applied to the 2008-2009 school year, and is open to entering freshmen, as well as continuing students at an accredited college or university.

The scholarship fund is just one of the ways in which Power Of Visions, Inc hopes to break the cycle of incarceration, which according to a 2000 Senate report, will land as many as 70% of children of incarcerated parents in the criminal justice system.

Big Gates and Plies will attempt to provide the type of “effective intervention strategies” the Senate report suggests can counter those odds by creating educational, and cultural experiences for minority youths in the Tampa and Ft. Myers, Florida areas.

The organization’s primary goal of community improvement will be achieved through a variety of other programs as well, including rehabilitative classes, training and workshops.

Big Gates and Plies will also provide financial support and legal representation for needy individuals, primarily those already in jail.

Plies’ latest philanthropic effort comes as the Ft. Myers-bred artist celebrates yet another career milestone.

Definition of Real debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 two weeks ago, with 215,000 units sold, the highest first week sales numbers in Slip-N-Slide’s history.

Powered by the popularity of its first single “Bust It Baby, Pt. II” featuring Ne-Yo, the album remains at number five on the charts.

Rumors and reports that Foxy Brown would be announcing her engagement to Rick Ross at the BET Awards proved to be false.

Ross had an explanation for MTV News, saying “The engagement is speculation. I’m married to the money.”

The source of the rumor was gossip publication Hip-Hop Weekly, which alleged that the two rappers were planning to get hitched, after photos of the two surfaced online. It should be noted that neither rapper has confirmed or denied the relationship.

Currently, Foxy is working on her upcoming album Black Roses, while Ross' Trilla was released this year.

T-Pain, Steve Rifkind Accused Of Stealing 'Stripper'

Three producers initiated legal action in a California courtroom yesterday (June 25), accusing T-Pain, SRC Records boss Steve Rifkind and others of copyright infringement.

At issue is T Pain’s hit single “I’m N Luv With A Stripper,” which a group songwriters claim is stolen material.

According to a complaint filed Monday (Jun 23) with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Rodney King (no relation), Jeff Byrd and James Reese are demanding a trial by jury and seeking an award for damages including any gains, profits and advantages obtained as a result of the alleged infringement.

In 1997, the three plaintiffs, who collectively have worked with the likes of Lionel Richie, Teena Marie, and 90’s group All For One, created a song titled “Makin’ Luv 2 A Player.”

The song was subsequently recorded by actor Antonio Fargas, best known for his portrayal of “Huggy Bear” in the 70s television series “Starsky and Hutch.”

A year later, the song was submitted to Rifkind during his tenure as the CEO of Loud Records and King and Fargas received a meeting invitation to discuss the licensing or sale of the song.

During the meeting, Rifkind allegedly reiterated his interest in having the song re-recorded by an artist on the Loud roster, bringing in several members of the label’s A&R staff to discussing the possibility of involving Big Pun, Wu Tang Clan or Fat Joe.

Also at hand was the label’s alleged desire to support the record with a tour and feature film.

Following the meeting, the involved parties continued to negotiate, both verbally and in writing, but were unable to come to an agreement.

The lawsuit claims Rifkind did however, retain a copy of the song. In 2005, shortly after founding SRC and signing singer/producer Akon, T-Pain was signed to Akon’s Konvit Muzic imprint and Jive Records, which is a subdivision of Zomba.

The lawsuit suggests that T-Pain, born Faheem Najm, then received a copy of their song, from which he drew more than inspiration for his 2005 hit featuring Mike Jones.

“The musical hook is nearly identical,” attorney Gregory Bodell told AllHipHop.com. “It’s a little slower in my clients’ song, but it was of course recorded 8 years earlier. When I listened to it, I said, ‘That’s the same hook.’

“Given how similar the hook is musically, and the lyrics aren’t that different, from ‘Makin’ love to a playa’ to “I'm in Luv Wit a Stripper,’ it’s hard to believe that Rifkind, who had my clients’ original song, didn't give the song to T-Pain,” Bodell claimed. “It is especially likely that this happened since originally, back in ’98 when he met with Mr. King, he and his A&R staff were trying to determine which of his artists would best perform the song. It seems they found T-Pain in 2005.”

The plaintiffs have requested that the court determine an amount of punitive and exemplary damages that is “sufficient to punish [the defendants] and to deter similar conduct in the future,” according to the lawsuit.

Rifkind, T-Pain, Houston rapper Mike Jones, SRC Records, the Konvict Muzik Group, Zomba Recordings, Warner-Tamerlane Publishing, and Sony BMG Music are all named as defendants in the multi-million dollar lawsuit.

Also named as defendants are up to 100 "John Does," referring to the various companies that have been involved in the distribution of "I’m N Luv Wit A Stripper," including ringtone companies and digital distribution sources.

Death Row Auctioned Off For $24 Million

According to TMZ, Global Music Group president Susan Berg has now taken on that role, as she purchase the record label in an auction for $24 million. As a result, Berg now has control of all recordings by Death Row artists Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur made during their time at the label. Included in the purchase was an additional 20 unreleased Tupac songs.

Knight was forced by a bankruptcy court judge to auction all assets of the infamous record label to the highest bidder. Had he done so in February, when Warner Music Group was making an offer, Suge could have sold the label for $25 million.

Death Row's sale was the result of a 2005 lawsuit when Suge was ordered to pay former partner Lydia Harris $107 million for profits owed to her after being forced out of the label. Suge filed for bankruptcy in April 2006.

Previously, ownership of the rights to certain Death Row recordings has been contested by Dr. Dre, as well as Afeni Shakur, the mother of the late Tupac Shakur. Neither has commented on how they plan to prodceed with their claims at this point.

D-Block Preps New Album

After seven years since The LOX’s last official group release, D-Block is finally prepping a new disc.

The album, Prepare For Glory, is set to hit Aug. 19 on Babygrande Records.

D-Block is anchored by The LOX—Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch—but also has several other members: Poobs, Trav, Straws, A.P., T.Y., Bucky, Bully, Don D. and Large Amount. Longtime group member J Hood was dismissed from the group after publicly dragging the crew’s chain on the ground and dissed The LOX for their inability to help get him further into the industry. Last month, he wrote a letter apologizing for his actions and explaining his rationale.

While each of the LOX members have released their share of solo albums and mixtapes—the most recently being Styles P’s Super Gangster, Extraordinary Gentleman from last year—Prepare For Glory marks the entire D-Block ensemble’s first official release since year 2000’s LOX album, We Are The Streets.

The album’s first leak is “That’s My Nigga,” which features Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek.

Will Smith To Play Barack Obama In Film?

If a movie is to be made on Barack Obama, who would play the presidential hopeful? Well, many have speculated that Will Smith may be the best choice. One person who echoes the sentiment is actually Barack Obama himself. Now, another person agrees, fueling rumors of a potential movie in the works.

"It's right here," Smith told MTV, pointing at his ears. "That's the key. That's the key. America loves ears, you know? Mickey Mouse started it; Goofy and Dumbo followed behind. And America just loves the ears."

When would the movie start rolling?

"As soon as he writes the end of the story," he noted.

Later, The Fresh Prince was asked if he'd make a run as a politician.

"Naw, I ... you know, I enjoy being in the movie-star position. Movie stars tend to have a little bit higher approval rating than politicians."

Hancock, Will's latest film is set to hit theatres July 2, 2008, just in time for the 4th of July holiday.

Snoop Confirms Dre Upcomin' Album, Detox

Rapper Snoop Dogg recently left the recording studio, recording tracks for Dr. Dre's highly anticipated album, Detox.

"That record is real it's coming," Snoop Dogg said during an interview today (June 25) on Big Boy's Neighborhood. "You know me, I was starting to doubt it myself and then I went up in there and he played so much music for me it knocked my head off."

Snoop Dogg confirmed the fabled, decade-long project was finished and that the Doctor was selecting tracks for the album.

"I see what he got them waiting for, it's on and poppin," Snoop Dogg said.
"He got records, he got heat."

Dr. Dre will also sit in the producer's seat for Snoop Dogg's upcoming
album.

"Yea he's doing my next album. I got the title and everything," Snoop
confirmed without revealing the album's title.

Snoop recently released a country-themed video for his single "My Medicine," which features a westernized Snoop alongside Willie Nelson, Julianne Hough, Brad Paisley and others.

The Game Delayed L.A.X. For August Release

Previously scheduled to come out July 22nd, Interscope Geffen confirmed the changed date, but offered no explanation at press time. The rescheduling will mark the rapper's fourth push back since his original release date on June 24th.

According to the LA Times, Game recently threw a listening party for the album in Santa Monica, California. Although the disc is nearly two months away from dropping, the emcee guaranteed the CD's completion and gave a shout-out to G-Unit's 50 Cent.

"It brings me joy to say that I completed my third album," he told listeners. "I ain't got no beef with 50. All that [stuff] was on wax. I never shot at him, he never shot at me. Both of us done said a lot. But we're not Biggie and Pac. I appreciate the homie for helping me on my way up."

Nas And DJ Green Lantern Take Mixtape One Step Further

Nas has had an interesting way of promoting his latest Untitled album. After being pretty much forced to change the title of his new LP to Untitled, Esco named his mixtape The Nigger Tape (Download Here). Now, the album is almost near its release date and the mixtape is going to set that up for him even more. Along with The Evil Genius Green Lantern, Nas is putting together quite a lot for the tape.

"This shit is gonna have the streets right and have the streets ready for the album."

Some of the tracks have unreleased Nas vocals that Lantern used to create brand new songs. This led to some inspiration as Nas heard the beats and wanted to create new verses around those beats.

"I was like, 'Let me get some exclusives. I wanna make a movie,' " Green told MTV recently.

"We went to the studio, and this man's work speaks for itself," Nas noted. "He gave me some of the joints. Some of the joints sounded like they were right for the album. I had to snatch them for the album. We really getting it done. It's coming out right."

Aside from the mixtape, Lantern also got some work on the Untitled album. "Black President," a highly anticipated joint is on there, and so is "Like Me."

"There's another one called 'Like Me.' It was supposed to be for the mixtape. He gave me acappellas that wasn't out yet. I made a song around it. New beat, had somebody come and make a hook. It's like some pimp shit. Nas loved it. He put another verse on it and said, 'I need it for my album. Don't put it on the mixtape.' When they did the final cut of the album, 'Like Me' got cut, but it's on the international release and the iTunes and Amazon.com exclusive."

The official Untitled album is set to be released next month, July 15.

Lil E And Coolio Join HIV Testing

West coast rappers Lil E (formerly Lil Eazy-E) and Coolio are pitching in with National HIV Testing Day. Both artists will be appearing on Friday June 27 at The Los Angeles Sentinel headquarters on Crenshaw Boulevard to raise awareness in the community on the value of testing.

The group, joined by other celebrities and civic leaders, is asking for one million people to get tested by December 1, 2008. Resources and information will be provided.

Iconic rapper Eazy-E, father to Lil E, died as a result of complications from AIDS in 1995. Coolio has been an advocate on testing for over a decade. In 1996, he recorded "I Breaks 'Em Off" from the acclaimed compilation, America Is Dying Slowly, made exclusively by Hip Hop artists.

DMX Busted Without Valid Driver's License

Legal troubles continue to mount for rapper DMX.

The Associated Press reports the rapper (born Earl Simmons) was picked up about 1:30 p.m. Monday (June 23) by Miami Dade County Police. Authorities, who had an arrest warrant for Simmons for not having a valid driver's license, took the Yonkers, NY entertainer to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Institute.

According to a spokeswoman, Simmons remained behind bars at about 5:30 p.m. The rapper's bond was set at $500.

The arrest is but one of a string of recent encounters with the law involving Simmons.

The rapper's most recent legal episode came last month as he pleaded not guilty to felony drug possession and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges in Arizona. The charges stem from a raid of Simmons' Cave Creek home during an investigation of animal cruelty charges against the rapper.

In addition, Arizona police are investigating Simmons for allegedly checking into a hospital in Scottsdale under an assumed name to presumably avoid paying the hospital bill.

A message left with a New York attorney who has represented DMX was not immediately returned at the time of this story.

Ice-T Explains Soulja Boy "Beef"

This past week, the war of words between gangsta rap originator Ice-T and upstart MC Soulja Boy has sparked a firestorm of discussion on what is “acceptable” as Hip-Hop music.

After a mixtape intro hit the Internet of Ice-T disparaging Soulja Boy, the young MC retaliated with a youtube video denigrating Ice-T’s age and lack of respect for his career.

Ice responded in kind a few days ago with an apology for telling Soulja Boy to “eat a d*ck,” but maintained his stance.

Today in an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Ice-T explained the origins of the “beef” and ended the volatile situation with his young peer.

“I’d like to clarify how all this s**t jumped off,” Ice-T explained. “I was in the recording booth doing a mixtape, and the cats in there doing the promotion were f*cking with me. They were saying things about ‘Soulja Boy this, Soulja Boy that’ and basically I went on one. It wasn’t meant to be evil, it was basically that Hip-Hop ‘n*gga f**k that’ stance.”

“I didn’t expect them to use that clip to promote their mixtape,” Ice-T reasoned. “So I’m in the crib and n*ggas is calling me talking about Soulja Boy is replying to you on the Internet. And I’m like ‘replying to what?’ So I see it and I’m like ‘man here we go.’ It was a statement made behind closed doors, not meant to be an attack on this n***a.

"I didn’t even know dude was 17 years-old,” Ice continues. “I felt bad. I know I came hard at the n***a, but at the end of the day that’s just an old school, passionate Hip-Hopper trying to keep this thing 100. I’m not trying to disrespect Collipark or even lil homie [Soulja Boy]. Of course I overreacted…it’s not meant to be harmful. Bottom line is I would like to see rappers of today step their game up.”

Many fans also pointed out that they felt Ice was being hypocritical by criticizing Soulja Boy, especially since he appeared in the video for Joe Ski Love’s “Pee Wee Herman,” a dance oriented 80’s track.

“That s**t was corny too,” Ice-T laughed. “So yeah I had to check myself. We had some dumb s**t that came out like ‘Inspector Gadget.’ So I have a corny strike on my resume. But now it seems like the game is being overtaken by less skillful Hip-Hop. And you notice Joe Ski didn’t have a real long career in Hip-Hop.”

Recently Kanye West wrote a blog defending Soulja Boy, and favorably compared “Crank Dat” to Nas’ “Silent Murder.”

West went on to state that Soulja Boy’s use of double meanings rivals the skill of the groundbreaking Queensbridge MC.

“I respected his comment,” Ice-T stated. “At least the discussion has begun. But the discussion won’t go on if people feel I’m hating. It’s more about Hip-Hop. When you go in the studio, you’re supposed to really try and do something. It’s not someone’s fault they got a hit record, but when you try to compare that to Nas, you’re gonna get a dramatic response from a real Hip-Hop n***a.”

The Game Makes Regional Remixes To Single, Readies Mixtape

The Game has collaborated with several artists to create regional remixes of his current single, "Game's Pain" featuring Keyshia Cole. According to Billboard.Biz, the remixes will be hitting radio early next month.

Jimmy Rosemond, Game's manager, says that Young Buck and Bun B will be on the Southern remix, Jadakiss and Fat Joe will appear on the New York remix, and E-40 and Ice Cube will appear on the West Coast remix.

In addition, Game is busy prepping and duet mixtape with Young Buck hosted by deejays Skee, Nu Jerzey Devil and Haze, due out in July.

There is currently no word whether Game and Buck's mixtape will center around their beef with 50 Cent, but it would seem that it is the driving force behind the collaboration.

Sadat X Returns To Rap With New Album

Rap veteran and Brand Nubian co-founder Sadat X has signed a deal with New York independent label Affluent Records and is planning a new album titled Generation X.

The album, which is Sadat X’s fifth solo release, features 10 songs, as well as production from Will Tell and Affluent’s CEO, Oscar Sanchez.

"I am very honored to be working with Sadat on this one,” Sanchez said. “He has got a big sound on this album, his voice is timeless and he has a great brand name in the market. I've known X for many years and he has always stayed working, stayed touring, or doing features, he found a way to be relevant on the indie marker and its due, the fans want it, so signing him was a no brainer.

Sadat X made his debut as a member of the legendary rap collective Brand Nubian, which also featured fellow Grand Puba, Lord Jamal, DJ Alamo and DJ Sincere.

Brand Nubian’s 1990 debut album One For All contained a number of Hip-Hop classics, including “Wake Up,” “One For All,” “Slow Down” and others.

The group’s best known single, “Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down” hit # 2 on Billboard’s rap chart in 1993 and can still be heard on radio and in clubs around the world.

The Orchard wins auction for TVT Records

A New York-based digital music and entertainment company is set to take control of TVT Records, after placing the winning bid during a bankruptcy auction on Thursday (Jun 19).

In a statement released by The Orchard yesterday (Jun 20), the company announced plans to assume control of several of TVT’s assets, including the embattled independent label’s catalogue, artist contracts and physical distribution operations.

“After 23 years and 25 plus gold and platinum releases, I am delighted to see TVT’s catalogue and roster move to a company so deeply engaged in developing the digital future of the music business,” said TVT Records founder Steve Gottlieb, who retains control of the company’s publishing arm. “My energies will now focus on the continued growth of TVT Music as a premier music publisher, as well as following on with my consulting and co-investing with VC’s in early stage internet ventures.”

TVT Records filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February, following public criticism by some of the label’s biggest stars, including Lil Jon and Pitbull.

At the time, Gottlieb explained that the decision was simply a move to “reorganize” the company’s finances and operations of TVT, which had been heralded by Billboard magazine as the top US independent record label from 2001 through 2006.

The Orchard’s acquisition of the TVT interests is currently pending the approval of the courts and finalization of the purchase agreement, which is expected to happen by July 3.

“Along with a great catalogue of chart-topping music, TVT has a formidable artist roster, with major Hip-Hop talents and a phenomenal pipeline of developing artists,” said The Orchard’s President and CEO Greg Scholl. “We look forward to working with these artists, and where it makes sense, in conjunction with other Orchard clients and partners, to support their artistic vision and maximize their commercial potential.”

The Orchard currently controls and distributes over 1.1 million songs and 3,000 hours of video through online retailers and mobile carriers.

The company also offers several media services to various labels, retailers and agencies, including marketing, brand entertainment programs and film, advertising, gaming and television licensing.

The Game Sides with Young Buck

A day after ousted G-Unit member Young Buck released a diss record aimed at 50 Cent titled, "The Taped Conversation," in response to the G-Unit general posting an emotional phone conversation between the two on the net, The Game has come to the aid of the Cashville emcee by releasing his own diss track calling out the Unit.

The Game's song, entitled "Taped Convo" featuring Ralphage, the prank caller, finds the west coast rapper and former G-unit member proclaiming that it's his turn to take aim at 50 Cent and the rest of G-Unit.

He starts off the record referring to 50, Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks as wangsters.

"Its a 'G' in Young Buck / It's a 'G' in the Game / Banks, Yayo and 50, ain't no 'G' in they name / I'm a certified gangsta /f*ck them wangstas..."

The Game's lyrical onslaught continues as he questioned Fif's morals, addressing his relationship with his son and ex-girlfriend and the loyalty to his crew.

"You don't care about your son, if you did he would get yanked up / taping n*ggas phone calls what kind of sh*t is that... I told Buck buck in '05 I could never stay loyal / to a homo snitch n*gga that's weaker than tin foil / Oh why, oh why this n*gga wanna play games / with that Cashville n*gga and that Ceder Block ganga / Get the f*ck outta Tyson's mansion and turn the drama up / This n*gga a b*tch tried to burn his own baby momma up..."

Man Who Defaced Tupac Statue Explains His Actions

Kenneth Anthony Wilson, the man charged with defacing Tupac Shakur’s memorial statue in Stone Mountain, GA last October, has released a manifesto explaining his actions.

Wilson, who refers to himself as a “writer,” “artist,” and “Supa-hero,” claims the defacement was “my way of declaring an intellectual and artistic war against the gangsta rap community.”

“Yes I defaced that statue of Tupac Shakur because the center is a cancer on the community,” Wilson said in a statement. “For we reap what we sow…Tupac Shakur is no messiah, that’s why when he stuck his dumbass on his album cover and claimed he was not disrespecting Jesus Christ, God crucified his evil ass before the album came out.”

Wilson justified his actions through his belief that Tupac and his mother Afeni Shakur are misleading the youth through Tupac’s image and message.

“Tupac Shakur is not only a rapist and murderer of his own people, his center of the arts is in the business of molesting the young minds of our youths into believing that Thug Life is the American Dream,” Wilson exclaimed. “Since Afeni Shakur insists on lying to the youth at her center that her son is the Messiah and he died for the sake of them…So she resurrects a statue of Tupac Shakur dressed as a reverend with the Holy Bible in his right hand… Death Row Records did not destroy Tupac Shakur; smoking crack when he was in her womb did! Tupac Shakur was not only weak he was a complete fool who never for one minute practiced what he preached.”

Despite admitting he defaced the statue and showing no remorse, Wilson revealed that he plans to argue in the court of law that the damage was justified on moral grounds.

“I have every intention of proving in a court of law not only the hypocrisy of the Tupac Shakur center, but also its immorality, injustice, and illegality,” Wilson fumed. Wilson’s trial date has not been determined.

The 43-year-old male was apprehended on October 22, 2007 for defacing Tupac’s statue with handbills of threats against the center, other rappers, and record labels.

Initially considered a hate crime, these charges were dropped due to Wilson being black and there being no racial motivation in the threats.

Afeni Shakur could not be reached for comment at press time.

Young Buck's New Manager Speaks On 50 Cent

Not even 24 hours after 50 Cent leaked the full 16 minute conversation with Young Buck, the saga has now taken a Machiavellian twist, as Young Buck’s manager Blue Williams has accused 50 of “doctoring” the audio tape.

Yesterday, Buck released a diss track called “The Taped Conversation,” deriding 50 Cent as dishonest and questioning the loyalty of remaining G-Unit member Lloyd Banks.

Williams also said the tape is over a year old. “Just so that it is clear, this obviously edited and doctored recording was made from a phone conversation between Young Buck and 50 Cent-recorded and leaked by 50 Cent,” Williams told AllHipHop.com early this morning. “It was made over a year ago, the first time Buck was kicked out of G-Unit for being a man and communicating with people that 50 deemed his ‘enemies.’ You only hear one side of the conversation.”

Williams also dismissed any ideas that there will be a long, drawn-out verbal/physical war akin to The Game’s infamous battle with G-Unit.

“At this time, I have convinced Buck to take the higher road and not respond to the petty back and forth with an obviously scorned and angry man [50 Cent],” Williams told AllHipHop.com. “I am sure if need be there are plenty explosive G-Unit secrets that he could put out there from the inner workings of the crew, but he’s going to take the high road. He’s not interested in a pissing match with G-Unit because he’s moved on with his life since April, when he was kicked out the final time.”

With the full audio conversation being leaked on www.thisis50.com, fans have debated whether Buck’s authenticity as a street artist can still be accepted.

Many cite Buck’s deference to 50 and emotional laments in the audio as cause for concern.

“Everybody out here already knows what a real cat Buck is,” Williams clarified. “I don’t think anyone in the streets thinks Young Buck is soft-if anything, they know he’s real and he’s emotional. That’s what makes him such a great rapper. He’s a real man, thinking he was having a real conversation with 50 Cent, not someone who’d record it, doctor it up, and put it out a year later to try and build hype to sell a G-Unit compilation CD.”

Blue Williams is a well known and highly respected manager in the industry.

The veteran has successfully guided the careers of Nas, Outkast, and Nick Cannon.

And he expects to do the same with Young Buck but steering him away from a blood feud with his former camp.

“We are focusing on TV and film opportunities, touring, recording a super album, and continuing to build TennAKey Watches, Cashville Records, and David Brown clothing. Buck is a superstar and plans to show the world!”

50 Cent has not commented on the leak or comments from Buck’s camp at press time.

50 Cent Suing Ex For Defamation

Lawyers for 50 Cent are filing a defamation lawsuit against the mother of his 11-year-old son, in an attempt to prevent her from telling the media that he masterminded a May blaze that burnt down 50 Cent’s Long Island mansion.

Tompkins told a number of media outlets that 50 Cent was behind the fire, which burnt the $2.4 million dollar Dix Hills mansion to the ground.

“He’s upset,” Tompkins told reporters shortly after the inferno. “If he can’t have it, no one can. He said that he was gonna have somebody come kill me and watch what he does, and this is what he did.”

"There comes a point where you can no longer sit on your hands and listen to her spread these falsehoods," 50's lawyer, Brett Kimmel, told The New York Daily News. "Besides hurting his reputation, they have a damaging impact on their son."

In a petition filed in Suffolk Family Court, 50 Cent claims that since the fire, Tompkins will not tell him where she is living and is allegedly preventing him from seeing his son, Marquise.

The rapper claims he sent his son a duffle bag full of new clothes, as well as a cell phone to stay in touch with the young boy.

"The only way [50] can communicate with his son is to call [Tompkins'] cell phone. On June 11 ... [she] did permit [50] to speak with his son,” the complaint reads. “However ... she was hovering over Marquise, monitoring the conversation and, after a short while, she interrupted the conversation by taking the phone from Marquise and began yelling at [50]."

50 Cent also claims Tompkins is willfully violating their court ordered custody agreement.

Lawyers for Tompkins were not available for comment.

Masta Ace Reacts To Eminem's Remix Of "Slaughtahouse"

Years ago, Eminem once told Masta Ace that his 1993 Slaughtahouse album was a staple for the Detroit emcee in the uncertain years of his career portrayed in 8 Mile. In a strange turn of events, Eminem, now an Oscar-nominated, Grammy Award-winning producer, was able to remix the title track from Masta Ace Incorporated's aforementioned album [click to listen].

Released on June 3, Delicious Vinyl Records' RMXXOLOGY features classics from the Los Angeles-based Hip Hop independent label remixed by stars from an array of genres. Original tracks from Tone Loc, Young MC and Fatlip are remixed by Peaches, Aaron Lacrate and Debonair Samir [click to read] and Hot Chip. However, many are drawn in by the Eminem re-working.

"It's an incredible honor that somebody so talented and accomplished in the game would wanna do a remix of my song," Masta Ace told HipHopDX Wednesday morning, reacting to the work. The two, along with J. Black, appeared together on the rare track "Hellbound," made early in Eminem's career.

Presently, Masta Ace is working with Wordsworth, Punchline and Stricklin in The EMC [click to read], who just released their debut The Show [click to read] earlier this year.

Young Buck Recorded Pleading With 50 Cent

Just days after footage leaked of Young Buck yelling "fuck G-Unit!" during a live show, an audio recording of the Tennessee rapper pleading with 50 Cent over the phone was released.

In the first two parts of the audio recording, which were obtained and posted by Hot 97's Miss Info, a audibly emotional Buck tried to explain that he wasn't similar to previous artists who had left G-Unit. “I done said things and I’m aware of some of the things that I have said but I don't want you to feel like I'm a Game or Smurf or none of them niggas man. Even if you did the worst to me there is nothing I could ever say to you,” said Buck. “I'm that type of nigga. I'm serious. I couldn't even write a negative rhyme in my mind, in my train of thought about you. I understand I got out of check but I don’t know what to do because it seems once a nigga scar you, it’s hard to heal your wound.”

"I don't want you to dismember me from the crew," said Buck. "I've not said nothing out here in the media-other than me putting in the statements of 'I'm my own man creating my own thing,' but I have never dismembered myself from the family."

When asked by 50 Cent as to who came up with the idea for Buck to start Cashville records, Buck admitted, “You gave me the idea and that’s what I explain in all my interviews.”

In the second audio clip, Buck spoke to 50 about his financial problems. "My whole goal is to actually get back what I've paid for you and hopefully I can actually get that shit back-work out the kinks," he continued. "I know Banks and Yayo gotta feel a certain way towards me 'cause of the way shit is and just iron shit out and hopefully get back to the G-Unit record. Outside of what I owe you, you got tax time rolling around-and my taxes. I still owe money from last year's taxes. It's so many other debts that I'm in for as far as the last year and this year's about to roll around."

“I’m confused. I'm handling it wrong,” admitted Buck. "I have gotten out of line with you. I swear to God I have. I'm wrong. A nigga just be confused.”

50 responded to the tirade, seemingly consoling Buck. "You gonna be all right, you hear me. You gotta be able to stay closer to me, Buck, so you don't fuck up. We'll fix the shit. You just got to stay closer to the space 'cause there ain't no-it's not gonna happen. Shit is different, Buck, and if you don't stay closer to what's going on it's gonna fuck up. Tony's been the safest one, you know why? He's been staying closer."

Lil Wayne Breaks Platinum In First Week

Apparently, the hook to “A Millie” wasn’t just a bridge between Lil Wayne’s verses.

Reports with MTV and Billboard, and a video blog from Wayne himself have confirmed that Tha Carter III has sold more than one million units, giving it platinum status in only its first week.

"Thank you, that's it," he said to MTV News when asked about the album's success earlier this week. "I'm just very grateful, that's it. Blown away, of course. Surprised, of course. Elated. Every positive word there is.

"I wasn't trippin' about this," he said about the sales stats. "I didn't have no expectations. That's not only with music, that's period. You shouldn't expect anything. You never know what could happen."

According to Billboard, Tha Carter III is the first album since 50 Cent’s The Massacre in March 2005 to break a million copies sold. Kanye West’s Graduation came the closest, selling 957,000 units its first week in September 2007.

In other news, Wayne has confirmed that he is forming a supergroup with T-Pain, and that he will begin the Tha Carter III tour next week.

Lil Wayne and T-Pain Form Supergroup

Two of Hip Hop and R&B’s cameo kings are joining forces for an entire project.

In an MTV report, Lil Wayne has confirmed that he and T-Pain are forming a supergroup.

"We both have the same energy," he said in the report. "I don't sleep. If you ask anybody, I don't sleep. I think it's the cousin of death. As much as you sleep, you're impersonating death to me. He don't sleep. I play all day. He plays all day and all night."

The duo has previously collaborated on “Got Money,” the second single from Lil Wayne’s new album Tha Carter III.

“The connection is crazy,” he says about his musical chemistry with the Tallahassee, Fla. hit maker. “He loves to be creative, he loves to work; I love to create, I love to work. He really wants people to respect his rapping; I really want people to respect my harmonizing.”

In the report, Lil Wayne also announced that he will begin touring for his album on June 27. According to a video blog Wayne posted, Tha Carter III has already reached platinum certification of one million records sold.

"I just want people to leave the show and feel like they saw something that they gonna remember forever," he said of the impending tour. "You know how our parents always tell us about some concert they went to back in the day, but they remember it like yesterday? I want that to be every night, every city for me.
